[ARCHIVED] North-South Annexation Proposal

Photo of a neighborhood lined with trees that have pink flowers on them.

The City of East Wenatchee is working with the Douglas County Commissioners to initiate an annexation using the Interlocal Agreement Annexation (ILA) process. That process was created by the state legislature in 2020 as an alternative method of annexation that stresses coordination and cooperation between agencies. Download a draft copy of the interlocal agreement (PDF). The annexation is proposed to be completed by June 30, 2022.

There are 4 areas proposed for annexation (A-D). There are 3 areas north of the City and a large area to the south. The North-South Annexation Map shows the location of all 4 areas. For more detail regarding the individual areas, maps for each area can be viewed in the second set of links.

When an annexation occurs, the City takes over many services that are currently being offered by Douglas County departments. However, there are several services that will not change. On March 15, 2022, a flyer was sent to property owners and residents in the areas explaining the changes in services. To read that flyer, please use the following link: North-South Annexation Fact Sheet (PDF)

East Wenatchee has a current population of 14,180. The table below shows the estimated housing units, population, and land area in acres for each of the proposed annexation areas.

The ILA Annexation process requires a public hearing with the Board of County Commissioners and the City Council and adoption of an ordinance. The public hearing may be held separately or a joint hearing. A hearing has not been set yet. Once the hearing format, date, and time are established, notification will be published in The Wenatchee World and posted on this website.
