Update - June 16, 2021
Grant Road is completely open now and traffic is flowing normally again.
Update - June 14, 2021
The Grant Road exit off of SR 28 is open again and so is the entrance into Hobby Lobby. Part of the right, eastbound, lane is still closed until crews can finish the curbing this week, which is dependent on the weather.
Original Closure - June 3, 2021
On the evening of Wednesday, June 2, the City of East Wenatchee was made aware of a possible sinkhole at the bottom of Grant Road. The East Wenatchee Police Department were the first on the scene and safely blocked off the east-bound lane, closest to Wendy’s and Hobby Lobby, and secured the area until crews could arrive to assess the situation.
When the Public Works Department arrived this morning, June 3, they blocked off the adjacent lane and immediately started working on detour and repair plans. Arrangements are being made to begin repairs on Monday, June 7 with the final paving being completed on Friday, June 11.
Staff have been working with the affected businesses on a feasible detour that would allow the entrance to Wendy’s and Hobby Lobby to remain open while repairs are underway. The SR 28 exit onto Grant Road has been closed, as well as the center and right lanes heading east on Grant Road. Vehicles are able to access Hobby Lobby and Wendy’s from Riverside Drive and there is a detour set up that directs vehicles to an area in the Fred Meyer parking lot where they can safely circle back around in order to access Riverside Drive. The Link Transit bus stop, located in the Fred Meyer parking lot, will be closed until Grant Road is able to open again.
